Top Aceh rebel commander killed in clash

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Tengku Abdullah Syafi'ie (file photo), top commander of the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in Indonesia's Aceh Province, was killed in a clash with members of the Indonesian army's Strategic Reserve Command (KOSTRAD), the Indonesian military and GAM said Jan. 23. Syafi'ie, 50, was killed Jan. 22 along with his wife Fatimah and five other GAM members after they fought with 20 KOSTRAD members.
