Referendum set to oust mayor to save art deco building

TOYOSATO, Japan - Hiroshi Ito, a resident of the town of Toyosato, Shiga Prefecture, looks at a notice Jan. 10. It says the municipal election board accepted his civic group's formal request for a referendum on ousting Mayor Wasaburo Ono, who was pushing for the demolition of a historic school building.
