Owari Garden

This is probably Shimo Ofuke Garden in Ofukemaru, located in the northern part of the Honmaru and Ninomaru areas of Nagoya Castle. This garden is said to have represented a sort of fairyland or utopia, consisting of 14 islands, big and small, such as Matsubara-jima and Takefuji-jima in a huge lotus pond. In 1889, it was purchased by the Department of the Army and turned into a military drill field. In 1908, part of the Ofukemaru area became an imperial villa.
