Japan suspends use of anti-flu drug Tamiflu for teens

TOKYO, Japan - Tatsuo Kurokawa (2nd L), the health ministry official in charge of pharmaceutical matters, announces at a predawn news conference in Tokyo on March 21 that the government has recommended against the use of the anti-flu drug Tamiflu among teenagers. After taking Tamiflu, two 12-year-old boys apparently jumped off the second floor of their houses and broke their legs in February and March. In February, a 14-year-old boy fell to his death at his condominium in Miyagi after apparently taking the drug while a 14-year-old girl died in similar circumstances in Aichi.

Sendai teen plunges to death after taking Tamiflu

TOKYO, Japan - The influenza drug Tamiflu sold in Japan. (File photo) A 14-year-old boy died after falling from a condominium building in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on Feb. 27. The police said the boy took Tamiflu the day before and they are examining a possible link between the drug and his fall. (Kyodo)
