Wild weather lashed southeast of Australia overnight from Sunday, September 1, leaving one dead, thousands without power, and damage such as downed trees. While people across Victoria were advised to stay home, evacuation orders were issued for Tasmania. OSAKA, Japan - Ikuo Kashima, a 77-year-old Japanese yachtsman, has given up an attempt to become the oldest man to sail nonstop around the world solo, asking to be rescued off Tasmania Island, Australia, his supporters said on May 5.
