A stage for storytelling

A stage for storytelling

The Life of Shiohara Tasuke was written by a comic storyteller named Sanyuei Encho (1839-1900). It is a story about human nature. The musician Higashiya Koraku inherited the stage name Rakuyu in 1906. The name on the tablecloth reads Asahikawa Tsujihiro, which is probably the name of the manager of Sasakiza Theatre as of 1905 (from The New History of the City of Asahikawa, Volume 2 ).==Date:unknown, Place:Sapporo, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number72‐181‐0]
