20.04.2024, Paide. Estonians have made the St. George's fire throughout the ages, when initially the fire was lit near a newly released herd to ward off evil, then on St. George's night in 1343 it became a signal fire for the beginning of a great uprising. On Saint Georges Night 23 April 1343, the Estonians began an uprising to rid themselves of the Teutonic Order and the Kingdom of Denmark who had been ruling Estonia its since conquest in the Northern Crusaders in 1261. Former Prime Minister Jüri Ratas was lighting the bonfire.
