The fall was attributed to the reduction in prices of vegetables, particularly tomatoes in August, compared to the previous month. The retail inflation of 7.44 percent in July was the highest in the past 15 months. The price data were collected from selected 1,114 urban markets and 1,181 villages through personal visits by field staff of the Field Operations Division of the National Statistical Office (NSO) on a weekly roster.
