Japanese attempts to swim to South Korea from Japan -- Tomoshige Hirose, a 58-year-old sporting goods store owner, begins a 70-kilometer solo swim July 22 from the island of Tsushima in Nagasaki to South Korea. Hirose, who hails from Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, left Cape Saozaki on northern part of Kami, one of the islets in Tsushima, shortly after 1 p.m. July 22 and hopes to reach South Korea's southern port city of Pusan July 24. ==Kyodo
