Tokyo Metro will tentatively open a new station, Toranomon Hills (photo), on the Hibiya Line between Kasumigaseki and Kamiyacho on March 6. This is the first new station on the Hibiya Line in 56 years, since the entire line opened in 1964. The new station will be built in tandem with urban development of the surrounding area, which is becoming an international business and exchange hub. Kunio Sakurai, general manager of the Urban Renaissance Agency, which is in charge of the project, expressed his hope that the new station will serve as infrastructure to support the entire region. The new station, which has been under construction in time for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to be held this summer, is scheduled to open for business in 2023.
