The shore of Lake Ashi

The shore of Lake Ashi

This is not Lake Ashinoko, but Gora Park opened in August, 1914 as viewed from its fountain pond. The park was built as the central development project of the Gora area by Odawara Electric Railway (present day Hakone Tozan Railway). The park was designed by Shichigoro Ishhiki and is known as the first rock garden in the French style. The mountain behind the forest is Mt. Sounzan.==Date:unknown, Place:Hakone, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number96‐9‐0]

Foreigner on a mountain path

From the width of the road and shape of the mountain, it is probably near the steel bridge of the present Hakone Tozan Railway. The road is the present national route no.1, and the pillar is probably the one that was built in 1892 as the second electric pole to be built on Japan. The same pillar stills stands on the road today.==Date:unknown, Place:Hakone, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number46‐181‐0]

A view of the direction of Tonosawa from downstream of the Haya River, near the steel bridge of the present Hakone Tozan Railway. The place is called Osaka. Since electric wires can be seen, we know that the photo was taken after 1892. Probably taken simultaneously as the photo numbered 46-181.==Date:unknown, Place:Hakone, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number46‐182‐0]
