Snowboarding rail contest held in Osaka

A snowboard rail competition is held on a special course at Honganji Tsumura Betsuin temple in Osaka on Nov. 23, 2024. Two rails were installed on the stairs leading to the temple's main hall for the rail slide competition, a discipline certified by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation last season.

TOKYO, Japan - Kikuko Tsumura (R), 30, won the 140th Akutagawa Prize for promising new writers of serious fiction on Jan. 15 for her work ''Potos Raimu no Fune'' (The Boat of Lime Pothos). The 140th Naoki Prize, another prestigious literary award for seasoned writers of popular fiction, went to Arata Tendo (C), 48, for ''Itamu Hito'' (Mourners) and Kenichi Yamamoto (L), 52, for ''Rikyu ni Tazuneyo'' (Ask Rikyu).

Kita Mido (North Hall)

Kitanomido is also known as Nishihonganji Tsumura Betsuin (subtemple). Designated a subtemple in 1876, it served as a rest place for Emperor Meiji at the time of the Meiji Restoration. The Osaka Prefecture Office and Osaka Hospital were also located here at different times.
