Novelist Soseki's bust unveiled at London museum

Novelist Soseki Natsume listed in 1901 British census

LONDON, England - The name of noted Japanese novelist and English literature scholar Soseki Natsume (1867-1916) has been found in a 1901 census by the Public Record Office of Britain that was officially released Jan. 2. Ikuo Tsunematsu, who runs the Soseki Museum in London, said Jan. 4 he found ''K Natsume'' and the age ''34'' in a microfilm released by the office. The writer's real name was Kinnosuke Natsume, and he was popularly known as Soseki.

Unpublished Hearn biography found in London

LONDON, England - This manuscript of an unpublished critical biography of Lafcadio Hearn, who was influential in shaping Western views of Japan through his books, has been found in a secondhand book market in London. The handwritten manuscript, penned in the 1950s by Cesar dos Santos (1907-1974), a Portuguese journalist, was purchased by Sammy Tsunematsu, curator of the Soseki Museum in London.

Soseki Museum in London to close next year
