Climbers head to the top of Mt. Fuji along the Fujinomiya route on July 10, 2025, as the route in Shizuoka Prefecture on Japan's highest mountain, straddling Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures, opened the same day along with two other routes, following the July 1 opening of the Yamanashi Prefecture-side route. TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken from a Kyodo News helicopter on Oct. 11, 2014, shows firefighters searching near the peak of Mt. Ontake, a 3,067-meter volcano in central Japan, for climbers who remain missing following a deadly eruption two weeks earlier. One more climber was confirmed dead after his body was found the same day, bringing the death toll from the eruption to 56, while at least seven people are still missing on the volcano.
