Thousands Protest Land Deal - Yerevan

Armenian policemen stand on duty during a mass demonstration against the Armenian government's controversial border-demarcation deal with Azerbaijan in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 15, 2024. Civil disobedience entered another day in Yerevan, where Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the Tavush for the Homeland movement and Primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church, told reporters such actions in Armenia will continue tomorrow, the next day, whichever day is convenient. The movement, dubbed "Tavush for the Homeland," originated in Tavush following the announcement of the start of the delimitation/demarcation process with Azerbaijan on April 19. Since then, the residents of Kirants and nearby villages have repeatedly blocked roads in the area for around two weeks to disrupt the delimitation process. The movement has been supported by senior church leadership and a number of opposition political groups. Photo by Anthony Pizzoferrato/Middle East Images/ABACAPRESS.COM

Violent Wage Protests Could Hit Top Fashion Brands - Bangladesh

Bangladeshi policemen patrol along a street in Ashulia on November 9, 2023, a day after Minimum Wage Board authority declared the minimum wage of 12,500 taka ($ 113) for garment workers. Bangladesh raised the minimum monthly pay for the country's four million garment workers by 56.25 percent on November 7, a decision immediately rejected by unions seeking a near-tripling of the figure. Bangladesh has been gripped by violent protests for two weeks, as thousands of garment workers take to the streets to demand better wages for the country’s four million garment workers. The protests have forced many factories in the country to close, paralyzing the world’s second biggest garment manufacturing hub after China. Dozens of protesters have ended up in the hospital. A protester set fire to a factory which caused the death of 32-year-old worker Imran Hossain, and intense clashes with police resulted in the death of 26-year-old Rasel Howlader, according to the US State Department.
