Independence and Housing 80 Years of Promises - Indonesia

Independence and Housing 80 Years of Promises - Indonesia

The 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia was not a celebration, but a bitter reflection. These photos capture a reality far from the glitter of national celebrations at the USU Residence III, Patumbak Satu, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia, the celebration. Amid muddy dirt roads and piles of garbage, only a single Indonesian flag flutters, as if the sole silent witness to the desolate national spirit. This settlement has been inhabited for two years, but the promised basic infrastructure has yet to materialise. The absence of public facilities such as parks and places of worship is not simply negligence; it is a reflection of the injustice felt by its residents. Every puddle and unpaved road is a daily reminder of the vast gap between spoken promises and the reality faced. This situation has become a national spotlight. This issue is not merely a development issue, but a strong indication of alleged corruption and money laundering practices that tarnish the public housing program. In respo

Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation - Indonesia

Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation - Indonesia

Using conventional method equipment, an expert and his colleague, Suhendi, 45, are searching for the depth of a drilled well to get a source of clean water in the USU Residence III complex, Pewarta Foto Indonesia (PFI) Medan cluster, Patumbak, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia, on May 5, 2025. The availability of clean water for subsidized houses in Indonesia is a crucial issue that is closely related to the existence of water throughout the world, which globally 70% of the earth's surface is covered by water, although only about 3% is fresh water, and most of it is bound in glaciers and ice sheets, defining the amount of fresh water that is easily accessible for human needs is very limited. Globally, billions of people still do not have access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation. Efforts to provide clean water for subsidised houses in Indonesia are part of Target 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS), which is to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation

The Duku Highway, deemed one of China's most beautiful roads, resumed operation on Saturday after an annual winter closure which usually begins in October. This year, traffic on the 560-km highway resumed earlier than it has in the past five years. The highway, connecting Dushanzi in the north of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Kuqa City in the south, runs through various landscapes including glaciers, forests, and grasslands. The Duku Highway will be temporarily closed every winter due to increased snowfall and road icing. The traffic typically resumes in June in the coming year. Photo by Xinhua/ABACAPRESS.COM/Ding Lei)
