Starting from Oct. 1 across Bangladesh, the five-day Durga Puja festival involved the worship of Hindu Mother Goddess Durga symbolizing the power and triumph of good over evil in Hindu mythology. JL Bhowmik, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), the largest organization of Hindus in Bangladesh, had earlier said that this year, the Durga Puja was celebrated at over 32,168 pavilions in Bangladesh including 241 in Dhaka. After worshipping for four days, devotees joined hands to lower the idols into the water amid the beating of drums, prayers and chanting of hymns, marking the end of the goddess' annual sojourn to her paternal home.
