TSURU, Japan, Dec. 19 Kyodo - Photo shows a magnetically levitated train that set a world speed record of 603 kilometers per hour in a test run conducted by Central Japan Railway Co. on April 21, 2015. The test was conducted using new LO-series cars on the track between Uenohara and Fuefuki in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo. A maglev train service will start between Tokyo's Shinagawa Station and Nagoya in 2027.

KAIWA's stainless steel vise for MC

Kaiwa (Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture) has launched a new stainless steel 5-direction centering vise for machining centers (MCs) that holds workpieces from four directions on both sides of the XY axis. It is suitable for ultra-precision machining of workpieces up to 50 mm in length and 60 mm in width using a 5-axis MC. The mouthpiece is interchangeable to suit the machining purpose. Even rectangular or round-shaped workpieces can be held securely. Both Y-axis and X-axis workpieces are fixed in the center position by separate screw tightening operations. "Mr. Yamazoe says, "The unique structure of the machine, which has no internal bearing mechanism, prevents rattling even after long-term use. The clamping jig of the optional vise has elasticity to soften the impact when the machining head and other parts collide. The vise is assembled from multiple parts. The bank of Katsura River, which separated the feudal domains of Sagami and Kai along the old Koshu Highway (present-day Uenohara-machi in southeastern Yamanashi Prefecture), seen from the east side (Sagami side) of the river. The buildings are teahouses standing along the highway, the existence of which is reported in travel journals as early as the Tenpo Period (1830-44).
