Nakamura Utaemon makes comeback to Kabuki

TOKYO, Japan - Nakamura Fukusuke, a Kabuki actor, speaks during a press conference on Sept. 4, 2013 in Tokyo after it was announced he will become Nakamura Utaemon VII in March 2014. He will succeed to the prestigious stage name that has been passed down over generations from the middle of the Edo period.

Top kabuki actor Nakamura Utaemon dies at 84

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows Nakamura Utaemon VI, a top kabuki actor and living national treasure, who died March 31 of respiratory failure at his Tokyo home. He was 84. Nakamura was known after World War II as the best ''Onnagata,'' an actor specializing in female roles. He won the Order of Culture in 1979 and Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1996.
