A rare and powerful tornado tore through the village of Pomas in the Aude region of southwestern France on Monday, August 24, injuring 39 people, including two in critical condition, and damaging around 300 homes.

China: Residents Throw Lifebuoy to Rescue Drowning Child in Xuchang

Residents in Xuchang, Henan, threw a lifebuoy into Baling Lake on August 19, 2026, to help save a drowning child and a man who had entered the water in an attempt to rescue him. The man became stranded after grabbing the child, and bystanders worked to keep both afloat while nearby boaters moved in to help. The video ended with the pair still holding onto the lifebuoy, awaiting further rescue.

France: Thunderstorms Topple Trees, Damage Homes Across Hérault 2

Violent thunderstorms swept through France's Hérault department Monday evening, damaging 46 homes, injuring two people and prompting nearly 180 emergency responses, according to fire officials.
