Italy: Heavy Rain Causes River to Overflow, Rescue Underway in Friuli Venezia Giulia Region

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy has been devastated by flooding caused by the overflowing of the Judrio stream, which was swollen by hours of heavy rain on Monday, November 17. The flooding severely affected a limited area of the central-eastern Friuli plain, from Trivignano Udinese to Cormons, where water is reportedly everywhere. The severity of the disaster led the region to declare a state of emergency. Tragically, the flooding resulted in one confirmed fatality: the body of a 32-year-old German man was found in Cormons. Additionally, a 35-year-old Finnish man is missing in the nearby Belluno area.

Nissan to supply compact car to Chrysler for sales in S. America

TOKYO, Japan - Nissan Motor Co. will provide Chrysler LLC the Versa compact sedan (photo) under the Chrysler brand in South American markets from 2009, the company said on Jan. 11. Chrysler will sell the 1.8-liter Versa, which is being made at Nissan's Mexican plant, under a new name. The Versa is sold as the Tiida in the Japanese market. (Kyodo)

Changchun - Russian and Japanese trains

Manchuria - Russian and Japanese trains in the Station at Changchun, the first station of the Japanese South Manchuria Railway, during the period of Japanese occupation of Manchuria after the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05. A special Russo-Japanese agreement of 1907 provided that Russian gauge tracks would continue from the 'Russian' Kuancheng Station to the 'Japanese' Changchun Station, and vice versa, tracks on the 'gauge adapted by the South Manchuria Railway' (i.e. the standard gauge) would continue from the Changchun Station to the Kuancheng Station !!!
