Borda's grandfather, a ship chandler, had a business with the Japanese Navy fleet dispatched to the Mediterranean Sea in April 1917 during World War I.

Dated Aug. 17, 1917, the document describing the purchase of foods and other goods and expressing satisfaction with the service was sent to Borda's grandfather.
