UK: Snow Blankets Country as Major Winter Storm Unfolds

Meteorologists have warned of wintry conditions sweeping across the UK on Friday, January 2. The Met Office is pointing to cold Arctic air now covering much of the country. Currently amber warnings for snow issued in Scotland, while a yellow snow and ice warning in North Staffordshire will run until noon. Existing warnings for snow and ice, which remain in effect across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, will last from today until Sunday, January 4.

US: Blizzard Slams Northern Iowa, Travel Severely Disrupted

A powerful blizzard swept across northern Iowa on Sunday, December 28, bringing travel to a standstill as major highways were closed due to blowing snow and whiteout conditions. Blizzard warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. Monday, December 29, with 2 to 7 inches of snow and wind gusts reaching up to 62 mph. Numerous crashes were reported statewide, and authorities warned of extremely hazardous and icy road conditions as temperatures rapidly dropped.

RECAP: Northern California Flooding Kills One, Triggers Rescues and Evacuations

Heavy rain and repeated atmospheric rivers triggered widespread flooding across Northern California over the weekend, killing one person in Redding and prompting rescues and evacuations across the region. Rising rivers and overflowing creeks inundated communities, stranding vehicles and forcing swift-water rescues. In Placer County, emergency crews rescued a baby in a carrier and nine people after the South Yuba River overtook a home. Flooding also impacted Mendocino and Humboldt counties, where roads turned into rivers of muddy water and animals were left stranded. Authorities urged residents to avoid travel and warned motorists not to cross flooded roadways.
