Pollen detector unveiled ahead of pollen season in Japan

Weathernews Inc., a Japanese weather information provider, unveils the Pollen Robo, a pollen observation device, in Chiba, near Tokyo, on Jan. 25, 2017 ahead of the pollen season. A ball-shaped device measuring 15 centimeters in diameter has a design like a human face, with its "mouth" taking in the air for analysis. Its "eye" can show five different colors in accordance with the amount of pollen detected. Weathernews plans to set up the device at some 1,000 locations across Japan including houses, hospitals and company offices to publicize data free of charge in smartphone apps and on websites.
