China's carmaker BYD opened its Thailand plant on Thursday, as its 8 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) rolled off the assembly line in the factory, marking a milestone in the company's overseas expansion. The EV model, ORA Good Cat, under China's carmaker Great Wall Motors (GWM), was produced at GWM's factory in Rayong. The model was first launched in Thailand in October 2021. It has soon become popular among Thai consumers, and the cumulative sales have exceeded 11,000 units. GWM, China's largest SUV and pickup maker, owns multiple brands including HAVAL, ORA, TANK and WEY. The company initiated its car production at the Rayong factory in November 2020.
