STORY: China's ultra-large self-propelled dredger completes construction task in Pinglu Canal project SHOOTING TIME: June 22, 2024 DATELINE: June 25, 2024 LENGTH: 00:01:47 LOCATION: QINZHOU, China CATEGORY: TECHNOLOGY SHOTLIST: 1. various of Tian Jing Hao leaving Qinzhou Port, China's Guangxi STORYLINE: China's ultra-large self-propelled cutter-suction dredger Tian Jing Hao, or Sky Whale, on Saturday completed its task in the ongoing Pinglu Canal project in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Initiated in August 2022, the 134.2-km-long Pinglu Canal stretches from the Xijin reservoir in the city of Hengzhou to Qinzhou port in the south of Guangxi. The Tian Jing Hao was used in the waterway construction of the canal on Aug. 20, 2023. Since then, it has dredged around 2,570,000 cubic meters of sand and mud. Since it was put into operation in 2010, the Tian Jing Hao has played an important role in the construction of major ports along China's domestic coast and major national strategic projects.

The construction of the Pinglu Canal project officially kicked off on Sunday. The canal, stretching about 135 km, aims to link Xijiang River with ports in the Beibu Gulf. Upon completion, the canal, starting from the Xijin reservoir in city of Hengzhou and ending at Luwu Town of Lingshan County, where ships could reach the Beibu Gulf via the Qinjiang River, will open a shorter route to the sea for Guangxi and other regions in southwest China.
