A very strong Typhoon Shanshan (No. 10) continued to approach southwestern Japan slowly on Wednesday, August 28, bringing widespread heavy rains and strong winds. More than a hundred flights to and from Kyushu, one of the four main islands in the country's southwest, were canceled. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a rare special typhoon warning for parts of Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Kyushu.

Japan: JAXA Successfully Launches Next-Generation H3 Rocket Into Space 3

JAXA (The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) launched its new flagship H3 rocket into space in a second attempt on Saturday, February 17, and announced that it confirmed the rocket has reached orbit as planned. The H3 lifted off from the Tanegashima Space Center in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima at 9:22 a.m., JST.

KAGOSHIMA, Japan - Video taken in KAGOSHIMA on Dec. 3, 2023,A piece of wreckage from a crashed Osprey military aircraft was handed over to U.S. military Sunday, a southwestern Japanese town said, as an around-the-clock search continued for seven crew missing in nearby waters.The wreckage was collected by local fishermen, according to the town of Yakushima, after the tilt-rotor aircraft went down on Wednesday during a training exercise near the island town.
