As the first generation comprehensive space ocean survey ship independently developed and designed by 708 Research Institute under China State Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, it successfully completed 57 major national scientific research and test missions such as long-range launch vehicles, weather satellites and manned spacecraft, making great contributions to the country and the nation. After decommissioning in 2010, it was permanently parked at its birthplace as a memorial. Qi told the welcoming ceremony that the Hambantota port is a key cooperation project between China and Sri Lanka under the Belt and Road Initiative.
