Hundreds of farmers arrived at the EU Capital Brussels with tractors on Monday morning, February 26, ahead of the EU agriculture ministers’ meeting. Chaotic scene erupted as police deployed water cannons to deter demonstrators away from EU institutions and rowdy protesters setting fires, dumping manure, and driving their trucks onto roadblocks.

Daigoji temple national treasures to be made open to public

KYOTO, Japan - The image of the Buddha Yakushi (Healing), flanked by those of two attendants, Nikko and Gakko, are shown to the press in the Yakushido Hall of the Daigoji temple in Kyoto on Aug. 9, one day before they are opened to the general public. All the images, designated as national treasures, are known to have been executed by the priest Eri (852-935) in 907. Their exhibition, only for an hour daily, is to last till Sept. 17.

Kiga Spa

This is the spa town of Kiga before the new road to Miyagino opened in 1889. The torii gate a little far back is Yakushido ( a Buddhist temple hall housing a statue of the Buddha of healing,) and the building on the left is Yuyoin. The buildings before them belong to Kameya Inn. The house on the right is Jindairo. Matsuzakaya Inn is across from it on the other side of Susawa River. The building with a white wall on the left is Chokairo of Matsuzakaya Inn. Finally the one in the foreground is Sengokuya.
