A severe blizzard struck the southern Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region on Sunday, May 10, with sub-zero temperatures and strong winds, which Governor Dmitry Artyukhov described as anomalous for May. Several highway sections were blocked, airports and public transport were disrupted across multiple districts including Noyabrsk, Muravlenko, Gubkinsky, and Purovsky.

There were two crew members and 10 passengers aboard the plane, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement. The An-2 landed 10 km away from the village of Karatayka and the passengers have been evacuated and placed in a boarding school, the statement added. The accident was caused by icing, TASS news agency reported, citing a source in emergency services. Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Moscow. (XHTV)
