35 Yoshida - Bridge over the Toyo River, and in the right foreground workmen repairing the castle. This station flourished following the erection of the castle in 1505. Here a bridge was allowed to be built over the river flowing west of the station. The town has now grown to become Toyohashi City. Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 - 1858). A soldier and Mt. Fuji

Research conducted by the Yokohama Archives of History indicates that this photograph is a view of Mt. Fuji from Fuji-Yoshida in Yamanashi Prefecture. From ancient times, the path to the summit of Mt. Fuji started in Fuji-Yoshida, and this seems to have been taken somewhere along the path. The theatre district in Isezaki-cho

The south side of Yoshida Bridge between Isezaki-cho and Nigiwai-cho had many popular theatres, teahouses and restaurants. The area was destroyed by fire on August 12, 1899.
