French literature translator Kawamori dies

TOKYO, Japan - Yoshizo Kawamori (in this file photo), a noted translator of French literature and recipient of the Order of Cultural Merit, died of lung cancer March 27 at Kawakita General Hospital in Tokyo's Suginami Ward. He was 97. A native of Osaka Prefecture, Kawamori was known for his many translations of works by French writers such as Andre Gide, Jean Cocteau and Guy de Maupassant, as well as his ''Esprit and Humor,'' an introduction to a humorous French short story.
