Mexican music academy closes

LOS ANGELES, United States - Photo shows Japanese violinist Yuriko Kuronuma in Mexico City on June 30, 2012, and violins to be donated to the Mexican culture and music agency. The music academy for children run by her in Mexico closed in late June due to a decrease in enrollees after being founded in 1980 with donations from Japan.

MEXICO CITY, Mexico - Japanese violinist Yuriko Kuronuma shows off Mexico's prestigious Mozart Medal she received Jan. 27 for her years of contribution to classical music education in the country. Kuronuma, a resident of Mexico City, has operated a music school in the Mexican capital since 1980 to teach children music.

MEXICO CITY, Mexico - Internationally acclaimed Japanese violinist Yuriko Kuronuma (R) on Sept. 2 gives a concert to mark the 20th anniversary of the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma, a music school she founded in Mexico's capital. Before an audience of 2,000 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Kuronuma, joined by graduates of the academy and students from Yokohama's Ferris University, performed Peter Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings and other works.
