Snowfall continued across the Sierra de Madrid on Wednesday, December 3, with Aemet maintaining a yellow alert for up to 5 cm of snow above 1,100 meters. Cloudy skies, fog, and light morning showers were reported, while temperatures stayed near freezing in higher areas.

Spain is experiencing its first major winter storm, bringing snow across several regions. A wildfire that broke out in El Herradón de Pinares, Ávila, on Friday, August 15, has burned nearly 3,000 hectares. The blaze was upgraded to a level 2 of the Potential Severity Index (IGR) when the fire started, but has since been downgraded to level 1. The probable cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Spain: Forest Fire Rages in Ávila, One Firefighter Killed 2

A wildfire in Cuevas del Valle, in the province of Ávila, Castile and León, has burned approximately 600 hectares. Around 300 personnel have been deployed since the fire began. The flames approached dangerously close to the town of Mombeltrán, prompting the closure of the national highway that runs through the municipality and the imposition of a partial lockdown. One firefighter died in a traffic accident while en route to the scene.
