Arms confiscated from gangster who sold woman to brothel

UTSUNOMIYA, Japan - Three handguns and 23 bullets confiscated from a gangster who has been was arrested for allegedly selling a Japanese woman for prostitution are on display at the Utsunomiya Higashi Police Station in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture on Sept. 13. The gangster, Wataru Kurihara, 26, allegedly sold a woman to a brothel for 1.5 million yen. Police say this is the first case where a Japanese woman has been sold in Japan for prostitution.

View of Nakanocho, the main street in the Yoshiwara pleasure quarter with the main gate, Ohmon, in the rear. It is said that cherry trees were transported to this spot in spring, mainly from Angyo. Teahouses line both sides of the street. The tower visible in the distance to the right is the clock tower of Kadoebi-ro built around 1884. Kadoebi-ro was not a brothel but a large store opened in the Meiji Period, and the clock was installed to attract customers.
