Egg prices surge in Egypt

STORY: Egg prices surge in Egypt DATELINE: Aug. 1, 2022 LENGTH: 00:00:46 LOCATION: Cairo CATEGORY: ECONOMY SHOTLIST: 1. various of eggs in markets STORYLINE: The prices of eggs surged in Egypt in the past two weeks despite urgent moves by the government to try to normalize the market. At present, the prices for egg cartons reached approximately 100 Egyptian pounds (5 U.S. dollars). The crisis coincided with statements by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture earlier this month that Egypt had achieved self-sufficiency in poultry and eggs, after Egypt's egg production reached more than 13 billion eggs annually. The Poultry Division of the Chamber of Commerce has formed a committee of experts working in the field of poultry wealth to discuss the reasons that led to the rise in egg prices. The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has delivered large quantities of eggs in consumer complexes to meet the needs of citizens, as government moves are still in full swing to control egg prices.
