WASHINGTON, United States - Japanese pianist Ikuyo Nagata (R) and compatriot violinist Reiko Watanabe play a duet of Belgian musician Eugene Ysaye's transcription of the Chopin ballade No. 1 at the Japanese ambassador's residence in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 13, 2014. Pioneer pianist Chieko Hara dies at 86

TOKYO, Japan - Chieko Hara, a pioneer Japanese pianist seen in this file photo taken in January 1977, died of old age at a suburban Tokyo hospital Dec. 9. She was 86. Hara was awarded a special prize at the International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in 1937 and performed throughout Europe.
