STORY: 8 children killed in NW Pakistan's landslide DATELINE: July 7, 2023 LENGTH: 00:00:54 LOCATION: Islamabad CATEGORY: SOCIETY SHOTLIST: 1. various of the site STORYLINE: Eight children have been killed in the latest landslide in Shangla district of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to rescue teams. The children were playing cricket in a ground located at the foot of a dune and got buried under it due to the landslide that occurred on Thursday, the state-run Rescue 1122 said in a statement. After an hours-long operation till late Thursday night, Rescue 1122, local volunteers and rescue teams from Pakistan Army recovered eight bodies and an injured kid from the rubble. Locals have confirmed that there is no more missing kids under the rubble. The rescue teams said that the landslide was triggered by heavy rain lashing the area since Wednesday.
