The Crypt of the Nativity with a crystal reliquary said to contain wood from the Holy Crib of the nativity of Jesus Christ in the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (St Mary Major) in Rome, Italy on February 2025 where Pope Francis wants to be buried. Pope Francis said his tomb is ‘already prepared’ in the chapel Paolina of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Unlike the majority of popes who have been interred beneath St Peter's Basilica, Pope Francis has reportedly made arrangements to be buried at Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome's Esquilino district.
