Top court overturns ruling in favor of Taiwan over Kyoto dormito

TOKYO, Japan - Japan's Supreme Court on March 27 overturned a lower court ruling that recognized the ownership by Taiwan, not mainland China, of a Kyoto student dormitory (In file photo) in a case that could affect Japan's relations with China and Taiwan. The plaintiff in a 40-year-old court battle over the ownership of the Kyoto student dormitory became China instead of Taiwan when Japan switched its diplomatic recognition to Beijing from Taipei in 1972, the top court said.
