The board was set up with the stated goal to "coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security." However, the launch of the board a month ago drew widespread criticism from even within the American government. According to a CBS report, U.S. Senator James Lankford complained about the Board, saying "we don't have definitions of what [the Disinformation Governance Board] is. We don't have boundaries on what it does. Why should we not have suspicions on this?"
