China: Powerful Icy Floodwaters Surge Through River Channel at Kanas Scenic Area

A sudden surge of icy floodwater tore through a river channel at Kanas Scenic Area in Altay, Xinjiang, on January 6, 2026. The footage captured powerful mountain floodwaters rushing downstream with tremendous force, carrying large chunks of ice that collided and churned as they sped through the channel. The fast-moving icy current swept relentlessly through the riverbed, with floating ice blocks crashing against each other in a churning, hazardous torrent. The dramatic scene unfolded after a group of tourists had crossed a safety barrier to take photos in the riverbed moments before the floodwaters struck.
