Hubble Seeks Clusters in Lost Galaxy

Handout Photo shows NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image features the spiral galaxy NGC 4535, which is situated about 50 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo (the Maiden). Through a small telescope, this galaxy appears extremely faint, giving it the nickname ‘Lost Galaxy’. With a mirror spanning nearly eight feet (2.4 meters) across and its location above Earth’s light-obscuring atmosphere, Hubble can easily observe dim galaxies like NGC 4535 and pick out features like its massive spiral arms and central bar of stars. This image features NGC 4535’s young star clusters, which dot the galaxy’s spiral arms. Glowing-pink clouds surround many of these bright-blue star groupings. These clouds, called H II (‘H-two’) regions, are a sign that the galaxy is home to especially young, hot, and massive stars that blaze with high-energy radiation. Such massive stars shake up their surroundings by heating their birth clouds with powerful stellar winds, eventually exploding as supernovae. The image incorporat

Copernicus Sentinel-1D Launches Into Orbit - French Guiana

Handout photo dated on November 4, 2025 shows Copernicus Sentinel-1D was successfully launched on 4 November 2025 at 22:02 CET (21:02 UTC) aboard an Ariane 6 rocket from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The satellite was released into orbit 34 minutes after launch, and the first signal was received at 23:22 CET by the Troll ground station in Antarctica. At the heart of Copernicus Sentinel-1 is the C-SAR (C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) instrument, operating at 5.405 GHz. It provides high-resolution imaging of the Earth's surface regardless of weather conditions, day or night. The radar supports four operational modes: Strip Map (5 × 5 m resolution, 80 km swath), Interferometric Wide Swath (5 × 20 m resolution, 250 km swath), Extra Wide Swath (20 × 40 m resolution, 400 km swath), and Wave mode for ocean monitoring. A key feature of Sentinel-1D, also present on Sentinel-1C, is the integration of the Automatic Identification System (AIS), which enables detection and tracking of ship signals in c

The World's Most Powerful Hypergravity Machine - China

An aerial drone photo taken on September 29, 2025 shows the Centrifugal Hypergravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility (CHIEF) in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province. China on Monday launched the world's largest centrifuge in terms of capacity, capable of generating 300 times Earth's gravity for a load up to 20 tonnes. The machine, coded CHIEF1300, is one of the core components of the Centrifugal Hypergravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility (CHIEF) currently under construction in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province. It can be harnessed for frontier research spanning deep-ocean and deep-Earth resources extraction, disaster mitigation and prevention, underground waste disposal, and the synthesis of new materials. China: Giant Fireball Lights Up Night Sky as Suspected Meteor Falls in Guangdong

This is the rare moment that a suspected meteor streaked across the sky in Guangdong, dazzling local residents as a massive fireball suddenly lit up the darkness like daylight. On May 28, 2025, in Yangjiang, Guangdong, a loud boom was heard as a brilliant fireball, resembling a giant rock, tore through the sky and exploded in a bright flash, captured on dashcam. The sudden blaze turned the entire night sky into near-daylight for a few seconds, and onlookers were left stunned. Experts explained that such fireballs occur when a meteoroid enters Earth’s atmosphere and burns up due to friction, creating a bright meteor. If parts of the object survived the fiery descent and reached the ground, they were classified as meteorites. The video ended with the sky gradually fading back into darkness as the fireball disappeared from view.

Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation - Indonesia

Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation - Indonesia

Using conventional method equipment, an expert and his colleague, Suhendi, 45, are searching for the depth of a drilled well to get a source of clean water in the USU Residence III complex, Pewarta Foto Indonesia (PFI) Medan cluster, Patumbak, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia, on May 5, 2025. The availability of clean water for subsidized houses in Indonesia is a crucial issue that is closely related to the existence of water throughout the world, which globally 70% of the earth's surface is covered by water, although only about 3% is fresh water, and most of it is bound in glaciers and ice sheets, defining the amount of fresh water that is easily accessible for human needs is very limited. Globally, billions of people still do not have access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation. Efforts to provide clean water for subsidised houses in Indonesia are part of Target 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS), which is to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation
