(240603) -- WUHU, June 3, 2024 Photo by Xinhua/ABACAPRESS.COM) -- An aerial drone photo taken on April 10, 2024 shows electrical workers inspecting a power transmission line in Jiujiang District of Wuhu City, east China's Anhui Province. Electrical workers staged a "high-wire walk" above the Yangtze River to inspect a power transmission line in Wuhu. Stretching 2,080 kilometers, the 800 kV ultra-high voltage direct current transmission line between southwest China's Sichuan Province and east China's Jiangsu Province spans the Yangtze River here in Anhui. As a critical part of China's west-to-east power transmission project, this line annually transmits over 30 billion kWh of clean power. Electrical workers of Anhui Electric Power Transmission & Transformation Co., Ltd. inspected the line section across the Yangtze River to secure its operation. In nearly three hours, these workers climbed up and moved along the cables for more than 2 kilometers at a maximum height of 278.2 meters. (Photo by Zheng Xianlie/Xinh

China: Selfless Man Lifts Downed Wire With Spade For Passing Cars In Rain

In eastern China, a brave and selfless sanitation worker lifted an electrical wire that had been broken by a fallen tree with a spade in the rain, clearing the way for the cars passing by. The video was filmed in Changzhou, Jiangsu on May 26, 2024. The man used a shovel to lift the electrical wire, preventing it from falling to the ground and posing a danger to passing vehicles and pedestrians. One of the witnesses Mr. Wu recalled the touching moment in an interview, mentioning that a heavy rainstorm unexpectedly broke out, causing a branch to snap and bring down an electrical wire. He greatly admired his actions as he passed by. Another witness, Ms. Fan, stated that she initially wanted to bring something to shield the elderly man from the rain. However, she saw another man offer him an umbrella, which he declined. Fortunately, the rain stopped after a short while. She also said that when the electrical wire was broken, some nearby shops experienced power outages.

In 2016, he took the training class and got the certificate, becoming the first person qualified of doing live-wire work in high altitude area in State Grid Tibet Electric Power Company. Live-wire operation is an important technical measure to ensure reliable power supply, but it is also a very dangerous and hard work. No matter in hot summer or cold winter, as long as there is a task, Zhaxi Nyima will climb on the high-voltage wire more than 10 meters above the ground and solve the problems. In 2018, Tashi Nyima won the title of "Tibetan Craftsman" in recognition of his professional skills. (Xinhua/Liu Zhoupeng)

Hokuriku Electric Power's "Assist Arm" robot for power distribution work

Hokuriku Electric Power's "Assist Arm" robot for power distribution work

Hokuriku Electric Power Company has completed the development of the "Assist Arm" (photo), a robot for power distribution work, and has begun deploying it. The robot will assist in the construction work, which used to be done by two people in a high-altitude work truck, enabling the work to be done by one person. This is the first time such a robot has been used in Japan. The company plans to adopt 10 more robots, including those of group companies, by the end of fiscal year 2019. The robots will be used for the most frequent part of the power distribution work, the wire separator work. In the past, high-voltage wires were cut and the cut wires were connected to each other with a temporary equipment called a wire separator by lifting a stick-shaped tool weighing about 10 kilograms. The robot will be able to cut wires and grab objects with an arm that can move in six axes with a single control grip, saving labor.
