Torrential rain pounded Japan's Tokai region, including Aichi and Gifu prefectures, on Tuesday afternoon, September 8, flooding roads and damaging homes and businesses across the area. A slope collapse was also reported along the Ueda River in Nagoya.

A powerful nighttime tidal bore on the Qiantang River slammed into a riverside embankment in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, on August 30, 2026, sending waves surging over the bank and catching onlookers off guard. Several tourists were knocked off their feet as the water rushed toward the crowd, while others scrambled to get away in time. This tide is locally known as the "Ghost King Tide" for occurring just after the Hungry Ghost Festival.
