2 Dutch ex-POWs set to apply for Japan's A-bomb recognition

THE HAGUE, Netherlands - Ronald Scholte who now resides in the Netherlands speaks about his exposure to radiation from the U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki in 1945 in recent interviews with Kyodo News. Scholte is one of two Dutch men who were in a prison camp in Nagasaki during World War II and survived the atomic bombing. The two are preparing to apply for Japanese government recognition as suffering from radiation-related illness to receive medical benefits.

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Former British soldiers, who were forced to labor in Japan during World War II, and bereaved family members of former prisoners of war in Japan bow in prayer for the victims of 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima, in front of a cenotaph at the Peace Memorial Park in the city on March 14. The 21-member delegation was taken to Hiroshima by Agape, a British charity organization headed by Japan-born Keiko Holmes.
