Settlement Growth in the Nile Delta - Egypt

Handout Photomontage shows Settlement Growth in the Nile Delta. The United Nations’ World Urbanisation Prospects 2025 was published on 17 November 2025. Drawing on data from the Joint Research Centre’s Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL), developed under the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS), the report tracks changes in population distribution across more than 12,000 urban settlements. It highlights a global shift in settlement patterns, with the majority of the world’s population now living in urban areas. This image, created with GHSL data, focuses on the Nile Delta in Egypt, one of the world’s most densely populated regions. By comparing estimates of built-up surface at three points in time, it shows how the extent of urban development has changed between 1975 and 2025, along with projections for 2075. Using satellite data and national census inputs, GHSL provides a broad range of data on human settlements worldwide, including estimates of built-up surfaces per square kilometre and, at even

RECAP: Hundreds Dead in Sri Lanka’s Worst Flooding in Decades

Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency after Cyclone Ditwah triggered catastrophic flooding across the country. At least 410 people have been killed and 366 remain missing. Floodwaters in Colombo peaked overnight, and while levels have begun to recede, large parts of the capital and surrounding areas remain buried in mud, with the full extent of the damage still unclear. More than 148,000 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters, and the military has deployed helicopters and boats for rescue operations and aid delivery. The disaster is Sri Lanka’s worst since the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Red Spider Nebula

Red Spider Nebula

Handout photo dated on October 26, 2025 shows Red Spider Nebula. Using its Near-InfraRed Camera (NIRCam), NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope captured never-before-seen details of the Red Spider Nebula, a planetary nebula, in this image released on Oct. 26, 2025. NIRCam is Webb’s primary near-infrared imager, providing high-resolution imaging and spectroscopy for a wide variety of investigations. Webb’s new view of the Red Spider Nebula reveals for the first time the full extent of the nebula’s outstretched lobes, which form the ‘legs’ of the spider. These lobes, shown in blue, are traced by light emitted from H2 molecules, which contain two hydrogen atoms bonded together. Stretching over the entirety of NIRCam’s field of view, these lobes are shown to be closed, bubble-like structures that each extend about 3 light-years. Outflowing gas from the center of the nebula has inflated these massive bubbles over thousands of years. Photo by ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, J. H. Kastner (Rochester Institute of Technolo via ABAC

Snow Blanketed North East Scotland - UK

Handout photo dated on November 18, 2025 shows on 18 November 2025, the first major winter weather event of the 2025-26 season took place across parts of the United Kingdom, including north-east Scotland. Heavy snowfall blanketed large areas of the region, leading to travel disruption, the isolation of several rural communities, and the closure of numerous schools. Emergency services were deployed to assist residents affected by road blockages and power outages, while local authorities issued weather warnings and urged the public to avoid non-essential travel. This false-colour image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, shows widespread snow-cover across Aberdeenshire and the surrounding upland areas, with the city of Aberdeen visible along the coast. Data from Copernicus Sentinel-2, which provides high spatial resolution and multispectral observations, supports continuous monitoring of snow extent and surface conditions. Boatmen Navigate Flooded Yamuna Riverbank

Boatmen row a boat near a partially submerged helipad on the banks of the Yamuna River in Prayagraj, India, on August 3, 2025, as water levels rise following days of heavy monsoon rains. Seasonal flooding along India's major rivers often disrupts infrastructure, submerges roads and low-lying areas, and forces local residents to adapt their routines. The partially flooded helipad illustrates the extent of the overflow, as water encroaches upon critical infrastructure. Small boats become an essential mode of transport and livelihood for those living along the riverbanks. The image reflects the resilience of communities in flood-prone regions, where annual monsoon patterns bring both vital water resources and the looming threat of displacement or property loss. Handout photo dated on July 13, 2025 shows satelite view of Paüls. On 7 July 2025, a wildfire broke out near the municipality of Paüls, in the province of Tarragona, Spain. The fire spread rapidly, burning over 3,300 hectares, one-third of which lie within the Parc Natural dels Ports. The blaze prompted lockdowns affecting approximately 18,000 residents in Paüls and neighbouring localities and has led to at least one casualty of a firefighter working to contain the flames in a mountainous area. This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, acquired on 13 July 2025, shows the extent of the burn scar left by the fire. Data from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites is crucial for monitoring and mapping the extent and effects of wildfires around the world, informing damage assessments and supporting emergency management operations. Pizzaballa thus became the first Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem to raised to the cardinalate6 and the first cardinal to reside in the State of Israel. Pierbattista Pizzaballa has a number of similarities with Pope Francis. He has a disdain for clericalism and a concern for migrants, interreligious dialogue and, to some extent, the environment. He is considered, within the church and the curia, one of the papal names, and could be the Successor of Peter. Photo by Eric Vandeville/ABACAPRESS.COM

Speech by Irene Corradin, feminist activist, MLF. Rally, human chain against sexual violence at the Palais de Justice in Toulouse. Rallies across France, called by numerous feminist associations, unions and political parties. The trial of the Mazan rapists, the revelations about Abbe Pierre, the rape and murder of Philippine - every day that passes shows us the extent to which rape culture permeates our society, and the extent to which impunity for aggressors is strong.
