China: Fierce Storm Topples Trees In Ya’an, Sichuan Province

On September 2, 2024, in Ya'an, a city in Sichuan Province in southwestern China, a video captured a severe storm with strong winds and heavy rain. The harsh weather significantly reduced visibility on the roads, making it nearly impossible to see. The wind was so powerful that trees were swaying violently, with small debris flying everywhere, creating a hazardous and frightening scene. The filmer described how he was driving down the road when he happened to encounter strong convective weather. The violent gusts of wind lasted for twenty minutes, and leaves were flying all over the place. He had to get out of his car and cut down the fallen trees blocking the road before he could pass.

(240428) -- BIJIE, April 28, 2024 (Xinhua) -- In this aerial drone photo, members of a canal maintenance team clean up fallen leaves and gravel near a canal on the cliffs in Shengji Township of Bijie City, southwest China's Guizhou Province, April 24, 2024. On the precipitous cliffs, there are several canals that provide water for nearby farmlands in Shengji Township. One of the daily work for canals' maintenance team members is to clear withered branches and fallen rocks out of the canals. In Shengji Township, it is a typical karst landform. Rainwater swiftly permeates the hills and grounds after falling from the sky, little of which can be left for local people's livelihood.
