Court ruling on selective reduction

OSAKA, Japan, Aug. 7 Kyodo - Yahiro Netsu, a medical doctor who runs a maternity clinic in Nagano Prefecture, attends a press conference in Osaka on Jan. 28, 2020, after the Osaka District Court dismissed earlier in the day a damages lawsuit filed by a husband and wife who claimed that errors in selective reduction procedure carried out at an Osaka clinic when the woman was pregnant with quintuplets had led to her miscarriage, leaving her without any children. Netsu, who sides with the couple, calls for the central government to establish legal rules on multiple pregnancy to ensure selective reduction, or the practice of reducing the number of fetuses in a multiple pregnancy, is conducted safely.(Kyodo)
