US: Winter Storm Continues To Bring Heavy Snow To Colorado, Wreaking Havoc

A major winter storm continued to hit Colorado, bringing heavy snow to the Denver area on Thursday, March 14. Parts of Interstate 70 were closed, hundreds of flights were canceled, and tens of thousands of homes were without power. This video shows a car stuck on a snow-covered highway near the Interchange of Interstate I-25 and I-225.

Nikon develops digital camera with built-in wireless LAN

TOKYO, Japan - Nikon Corp. has developed what it says is the world's first digital camera with a built-in function allowing users to transmit image data wirelessly to printers and personal computers. The Coolpix P1 -- 9.1 centimeters by 6.0 cm by 3.9 cm -- can transmit image data to a PC up to 30 meters away from the user, Nikon said, adding that it will put the camera on the market Sept. 23 for about 50,000 yen.

Casio to market world's smallest digital camera with zoom lens

TOKYO, Japan - Casio Computer Co. will launch the world's smallest digital camera with a zoom lens, Exilim Card Ex-S100 (photo), in late September measuring only 79 cubic centimeters. Casio said it made its palm-sized camera smaller by using a ceramic lens for the first time. It said the ceramic lens has a higher refractive index than glass lens. The camera is a 3.2 mega pixel digital camera equipped with a 2.8 times optical zoom lens. It measures 88 x 57 x 16.7 millimeters. The thinnest part is 14.2 mm.

JVC to release 1st HD consumer digital video camera

TOKYO, Japan - Victor Co. of Japan Ltd. (JVC) said Jan. 22 it will release in Japan in early March the world's first consumer digital video camera (in photo) to record and play back digital high-definition images. The GR-HD1 high-definition digital video camera, which records images to mini digital videotapes, will be put on the market in the United States and Europe later this year, JVC said.

Sony to market 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera June 1

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said on May 14 it will put on the market on June 1 what it claims to be the world's first compact digital camera (in handout photo) with a resolution of 12.1 megapixels. NTT DoCoMo to launch 1st mobile phone with 3D color LCD

TOKYO, Japan - NTT DoCoMo Inc. said Nov. 13 it will put on the market Nov. 16 what it claims to be the world's first mobile phone equipped with a color liquid crystal display (LCD) capable of showing three dimensional (3D) images. Matsushita to sell digital cameras under Leica tie-up

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the LUMIX DMC-LC5, one of the two high-speed digital still cameras (DSC) which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will begin marketing Oct. 27 as the first products under an alliance with Leica Camera AG of Germany. The LUMIX DMC-LC5 is equipped with Leica's DC Vario-Summicron lens and can shoot up to eight frames per second. Matsushita said Sept. 17 it has not suggested a retail price for the new product.

Legendary bird discovered in Asuka mound mural

KASHIHARA, Japan - A mural of a legendary red bird has been discovered in an ancient burial mound in Asuka, Nara Prefecture, archaeologists said April 3. The painting on the south side of the chamber inside the mound was photographed using a digital camera. This is Japan's first ancient chamber in which legendary animals have been found on the four walls -- north, south, east, and west. The photo was provided by the Asuka village office.

Fuji Photo Film to sell high-quality digital camera

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a new digital camera with a resolution of 4.32 million pixels, which Fuji Photo Film Co. will put on sale March 1. Fuji said Jan. 31 the 128,000 yen Fine Pix 4700Z is the first digital still camera for non-professional use that produces pictures of more than 4 million pixels.
